Aqua Sports News & Events
Find out how this year's Dahab trip went down despite intervention from some late volcanic ash clouds...

This is Aqua Sports sixth year of going to Dahab, and rather than it getting stale it just seems to get better and more fun each year. For the past two years I have been scamming two weeks... erm, I mean preparing the way for the main party. Our core group came again this year with the addition of Chris and Ian as new Dahabers. Nevill couldn't make the second week and so came out with me for the first week.
Nevill and I had a fun initial week with only one windless day on the day at the end of the week. The lack of the main party didn't stop Nevill & me enjoying all that Dahab offered, and we maintained the sundowner tradition and also enjoyed some nice nights in Masbat.
The sailing was very good with a noticeable improvement in instructor tuition. Not that tuition was ever below good. But that the instructors own understanding and breakdown of manoeuvres has evolved to understanding every aspect of what they're teaching. This all means that you can't fail to come away without having increased your own understanding of what your doing in your sailing. And, combined with the consistent conditions Dahab offers, hopefully physically crack the manoeuvre too (ok I Haven't yet cracked the flakka, but you'd need a month in Dahab to properly get something like that dialled... if you're reading this Sam... hint!)
Nevill left after one week, having gained a reputation for some serious blasting across the lagoon, as the main group arrived late, from their trials and i understand some delay at Egyptian passport control, tired and ready for bed.
Monday was a no-wind day, but after the late arrival no one was too disappointed and spent the day chillin'. The wind filled in during the week from 5.5/6m conditions to some nice 5m days by the week end.
It was excellent to have Chris with us again after his passport issues last year and consequently missed trip!! But we won't mention last year. What happened last year Chris?
I think everyone achieved an advancement in their sailing and of course had a fun time doing so.
Dahab really does have excellent sailing conditions that allow beginners to learn and those looking for more to advance their skills... awesome place!
We are off to Dahab again next year with a variety of alternative activities such as scuba diving, camel rides and trips to the local village of Masbat.
Our trip for 2011 is again for seven nights (option of joining Stew for week prior or two full weeks) with Club Dahab, in Dahab, Egypt at the beginning of May. The price will be announced soon.
Accommodation...
The price is based on the 'standard' room at the Hotel Ganet Sinai which is partnered to the centre - the hotel is styled as a beach village. Price includes an excellent breakfast and evening buffet style meals, all transfers and kit hire plus two hours' tuition for five of the seven days duration of your stay (you will need to take your own harness and wetsuit). All excursions etc are extra. Superior room: £TBA; Single sup. £TBA std and £TBA superior. All rooms are extremely comfortable en suite shower room, air conditioning, mini fridge and TV. The hotel boasts a gym, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and a massage suite and there is a Bedouin style bar on the beach that does great lunches for a bit of power eating with bar and games.
The Windsurfing...
Dahab is an ideal location for both beginners and those wanting to learn (or perfect) some of the new, current freestyle manoeuvres such as Vulcans, Spocks or simply nail down their gybes, duck gybes, 360s etc, with some top class instruction.
The centre has a range of boards from Fanatic and Starboard with a full range of sails from Tushingham and North - all rigged on the beach and ready to go for you.
For the non-windsurfing partner there is a reduction of £xx and plenty alternative activities at the Ganet with the use of such as gym, massage, horse riding and more simply chill on the beach.
Diving in Dahab...
Diving in Dahab is awesome and highly recommended. You can choose one of the following supplements:
Five day PADI Open Water Certification course £TBA
Surf and Dive with four dives during your stay at £TBA (qualified divers only).
However, if you prefer some diving may be arranged locally subject to availability.
Adventure...
...and if you have any energy left from windsurfing and/or diving there is also snorkeling - highly recommended - waterskiing and wakeboarding on the lagoon; cruises and sports fishing; climbing and trekking to the biblically famous Mount Sinai; desert camel rides, jeep safaris and even quad biking.
Apres Surf...
Save a little energy for the Club Dahab bar, and Saturday night fancy dress and bbq. Finally no trip to Dahab would be complete without a few visits to the local village of Masbat with its vibrant bazaars, restaurants and bars.
We advise early booking to secure place for what was an excellent and fully firing trip last year. Call Sam to log interest and booking details.
