| BCU Junior Paddlesports Scheme with Aqua Sports |
Aimed at 8 to 13 year olds, these courses run in the school holidays and are supported by organised activities in the evenings and at weekends. Each course lasts 8 hours and is run over 4 days for two hours a day. For all the below courses, you will need to bring
swimming gear, a old pair of trainers, warm clothing and sun protection, i.e. hat and sun cream. Times are staggered making it possible to take more than one course in a single week. All junior scheme dinghy sailing, windsurfing and kayaking courses for 8 to 14 year olds are from £109.00. Teenage courses are also available for 14-18 year olds offering the adult scheme. Kayaking and canoeing for youths follows two paths. For 8-14 year olds we offer the Paddlepower Passport - a modular programme in which students attend courses and practice sessions to complete workbook style logbooks. For older more mature youths we offer the BCU Star scheme. |
Paddlepower Start (1-3)
- aimed at young people age 8 - 13, a basic introduction to paddling skills through experimentation and games.
- focuses upon the key skills that a young
paddler needs to learn. It includes basic skills such as forward and backwards paddling. Turning around and safely capsizing.
- each paddler receives
their own log book and sticker certificates.
- membership to Saturday Club is available on
completion of this course.

Paddlepower Improver (4-5)
- aimed at young people age 8 - 13, develops paddling skills through experimentation and games.
- still working through the paddle power passport, this course provides gentle skills development, again through games.
- students develop their existing paddling skills are are introduced to basic support strokes and paddling further distances.
- this course brings the student up to the equivalent of the adult 1 star award.
Once old enough, all students can convert to the adult scheme to gain Star Scheme qualifications alternatively we offer star scheme courses to youths age 14 + as part of our youth programme of courses. These are run in our usual format. |

Paddlepower Intermediate (6-7)
- aimed at young people age 8 - 13, introduces more advanced skills through experimentation and games.
- designed for those who have completed level 5 of the Paddlepower passport.
- this course develops student existing paddling skills and introduces support strokes.
- the basic elements of kayaking/canoeing it covers launching, paddling forwards and backwards, safe capsizing and a variety of useful paddle strokes.
- a BCU qualification is awarded on completion of the course.
- students may join Saturday Club/Youth Night on completion of this course.

Paddlepower Advanced (8-9)
- this course teaches improved paddle strokes, more advanced capsize technique and methods of rescue.
- practice at Saturday Club /Youth Night is advisable.
- this course takes the student to the equivalent of the BCU 2 Star award.
