Aimed at 8 to 14 year olds, these courses run in the school holidays and are supported by organised activities in the evenings and at weekends. Each course lasts 8 hours and is run over 4 days for two hours a day. For all the below courses, you will need to bring
swimming gear, an old pair of trainers, warm clothing and sun protection, i.e. hat and sun cream. Times are staggered making it possible to take more than one course in a single week. All junior scheme dinghy sailing, windsurfing and kayaking courses for 8 to 14 year olds are from £99.00. Teenage courses are also available for 14-18 year olds offering the adult scheme. Junior Dinghy Sailing Scheme - we have a comprehensive sailing programme for juniors that includes the following RYA Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4 and our very own junior 'advanced' course which introduces elements from the Seamanship Skills and Spinnaker courses as well as some fun racing. |
Intro to Dinghy Sailing
- for 6-7 year olds only.
- this 'pre-junior' course designed to build water and sailing confidence for younger juniors. This course is totally games and fun orientated, often with up to 4 in a single hander.
Start Dinghy Sailing Stage 1
- for 8-13 year olds.
- the perfect sailing course for those who are 8 years or above who have never sailed before.
- this course teaches juniors to sail with assistance - normally two-up in a single-hander. Course includes: launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat and basic sailing eg, sailing across the wind and upwind sailing.
- a logbook and certificate are awarded at the end of the course.
- this is the pre-requisite course for membership to Saturday Club.

| Dinghy Sailing Stage 2 |
for 8-13 year olds.
- juniors continue to sail two-up, learning how to sail a triangular course and sail unassisted. Course includes: basic sailing skills, ropework, collision avoidance.
- certificates are awarded once a student has successfully attained the level. It is recommended that students have attended some practise sessions before commencing the Stage 2.
- practise can be achieved by attendance at Junior Club, Youth Night or Summer Camp.
Dinghy Sailing Stage 3
- for 8-14 year olds.
- introduction to the 'five essentials' and sailing single handers.
Course includes: rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques, capsize recovery, sailing theory.
- at this stage, students will be sailing on their own in a single handed dinghy.
- this course is a training courses designed to progress students through
the syllabus at their own pace.
- certificates are
awarded once a student has successfully attained the
level. This generally requires additional practise time. Practise can be achieved by attendance at Junior Club,
Youth Night or Summer Camp.

Dinghy Sailing Stage 4
- for 8-14 year olds.
- effective use of the 'five essentials', efficient tacking and gybing in stronger winds, crewing and helming.
Course includes: rigging, launching and recovery; sailing techniques and manoeuvres in crewed boats; recovering man overboard.
- this course is a training courses designed to progress students through
the syllabus at their own pace.
- certificates are
awarded once a student has successfully attained the
level. This generally requires additional practise time. Practise can be achieved by attendance at Junior Club,
Youth Night or Summer Camp.
Junior Advanced Dinghy Sailing
- for 8-14 year olds.
- for those that have completed stage four.
- includes advanced boat handling skills, use of asymmetric spinnaker and racing.
- this course provides the skills youngsters need to excel in sailing. (Non certificated)
