RYA Windsurfing Instructor Training

Prerequisites – Candidates must have personal sailing ability of RYA level 3 or Intermediate Non Planing, valid 1st aid, powerboat level 2, and have observed for 8 hours on a level 1 course. £130.00This 2 Day course is for Level One instructors who have been advised by RYA Training to revalidate because their qualification has lapsed. The candidate must attend 2 days (usually Wednesday and Thursday) on one of the above listed scheduled courses. The candidate's existing level 2 powerboat qualification is still valid, but the candidate will require a valid 1st aid certificate, which can be arranged at time of course.
Prerequisites – Lapsed level 1 RYA Windsurf Instructor Qualification, valid 1st aid, powerboat level 2. If you need additional advice regarding these requirements please contact the Centre and speak to our in-house trainers.

Our Intermediate Windsurfing Instructor course is a four or five-day course which aims to progress the level one instructor to be able to coach students up to planing skills.
- the course runs over a four full days.
- run as a training course for existing level 1 or level 2 instructors, candidates will become fully conversant with the fastfwd coaching model and its application to skills.
- candidates will develop their personal coaching styles and breakdown skills.
- you will develop your theoretical knowledge, communication and presenting skills.
- assessment is continuous throughout the course.
- intermediate instructors will get either a 'planing' or 'non-planing' endorsement depending on their personal sailing competency level (see prerequisites below).
- successful completion of this course will provide you with a professional qualification enabling you to work in the UK or abroad as a recognised RYA instructor.
- option of free camping on site or low budget farmhouse B&B.
Prerequisites – start windsurfing (level one) instructor qualified and 50 logged hours of teaching at an RYA training centre, valid 1st aid, powerboat 2, personal sailing ability of RYA level 3 or 4 /Intermediate planing or advanced. Candidates with level 4 or advanced skills may achieve Intermediate instructor; candidates with intermediate planing or level 3 may achieve Intermediate - Non-Planing instructor.

Our Assistant Windsurfing Instructor qualification is a centre specific qualification aimed at anyone 14+ years of age. Primarily a course that trains instructors towards assisting on juniors courses and working with children. However, an assistant will also be able to assist on Start windsurfing courses.
- the course runs over 2 full days.
- this course allows the successful candidate to assist qualified instructors with junior and adult Start Windsurfing courses.
- centre specific - the qualification is only valid in the centre at which the course was taken.
Prerequisites – Candidates must have a minimum of RYA Intermediate Non Planing/Level 2. Candidates may also have 1st aid and RYA powerboat level 2 if old enough but these are optional. (course run on request)
RYA Dinghy Instructor Training

Dinghy Instructor - this comprehensive five-day course (minimum age 16) enables candidates to teach beginners up to Seamanship Skills and Spinnaker courses. Prerequisites include Seamanship Skills and successful completion of the Pre-assessment course.

BCU Level 1 Coach - This Paddlesports instructor course is the starting point for aspiring Paddlesports coaches.

- successful completion of this course will provide you with a professional qualification enabling you to work in the UK as a recognised BCU instructor.
- this course is a training course - on completion of the course, candidates may gain the BCU Level 1 Coach award. They can then gain teaching experience working with higher level coaches before attending a Level Two Coach Training Course.
- a Level 1 Coach is qualified to run taster sessions and assist on Star Award Courses.
Prerequisites – BCU Foundation Safety and Rescue Training. Valid 2 Star Award. Valid 1st Aid. A stamped CR form must be obtained from the BCU before attending the course. All other prerequisites may be arranged by Aqua Sports.

- a Level 2 Coach is qualified to run training courses up to 2 Star and can assess up to 1 Star on the Star Award Courses.

RYA Safety Boat Training - this practical course covers the techniques used by powerboat operators in the provision of safety and rescue cover for dinghies, windsurfers and canoes. This course is a must for any instructor with at least one season's experience.

- It teaches how to recover capsized dinghies and their crew and the methods of recovering windsurfers and canoeists.

- Candidates must hold the RYA powerboat level two award and have at least one year's powerboat handling experience.

- this is a comprehensive RYA certified course that focuses particularly on the 1st aid requirements of a watersports environment.
- it is a prerequisite for all instructor courses.
- the certificate is valid for three years, at which time you will need to attend an update.
