This RYA Seamanship Skills course builds on the Basic Skills course and includes fine tuning those five essentials and boat handling manoeuvres.

• Duration: a two-day course is run over the weekend and is 12 hours in total (broken down into two 6 hour sessions over the two days).
• Course aims: on this course we focus the sailor's attention on sailing with a partner as crew and helm in a crew boat; learn to handle larger boats with main sail and jib; theoretical knowledge to enable the student to make seamanlike decisions; the course content includes rigging, launching and recovery, as well as high level skills such as sailing tight circles and sailing rudderless.
• Qualifications: on completion of these skills a student may receive a seamanship certificate. This qualification this is also the pre-requisite skill level for becoming a dinghy instructor.
• What's included: all equipment provided (dinghy, wetsuit, buoyancy aid).
• Personal tuition: can't do weekends? Prefer to learn alone? This course can be run one-on-one during the week in a series of sessions.

This course can be taken on completion of RYA Basic skills. The course teaches how to sail a dinghy rigged with an asymmetric spinnaker and some trapezing. Usually run over two two-hour sessions.
